Midsummer, and the summer solstice, is an important time for European pagans. Many ancient sites of Europe and Russia align to the sun at this time, and major festivals were held, revealing how spiritually important it was, and still is. It is the time of greatest light.

The solstice is the most celebrated religious time in the world. It's celebrated by billions of Hindus, Christians, Druids, Native Americans, and pagans of all kinds. Hundreds of ancient sites were built to align with it. It's origins hark back to an ancient Religion of the Sun.

The maypole is often used in traditional celebrations of the summer solstice in Europe. It symbolizes the union of masculine (pole) and feminine (ring), of heaven and earth - but more profoundly of the divine and human, celebrated at the time of greatest light.
